1964年生まれ。90年代「パクシ」「バベルの本」など子供向けアニメーションを制作。「頭山」(2002年) が第75回アカデミー賞にノミネート、アヌシー、ザグレプ他6つのグランプリを受賞、「今世紀100年の100作品」に選出される。「カフカ 田舎医者」 (2007年) がオタワ他７つのグランプリを受賞、アニメーション作品の受賞は130を超える。 2021年、過去25年間の優れた短編監督25人のトップ2に選出。「おやおや、おやさい」 「ぱれーど」他絵本画家としても活躍。NHK「おかあさんといっしょ」のエンディング曲「べるがなる」の作詞。川喜多賞、芸術選奨文部科学大臣賞受賞、紫綬褒章受章。映画芸術科学アカデミー（米）会員、ASIFA日本支部理事、日本アニメーション協会副会長、ひろしま国際平和文化祭メディア部門ディレクター。中国美術学院客員教授、東京造形大学客員教授、東京藝術大学教授。

Born in 1964. During the 1990s, He was making films for children, "Pacusi", "Bavel's Book" and so on. Nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Short, "Mt. Head" (2002) had 6 grand prizes and selected 100 Films for a Century of Animation. "Franz Kafka’ s A Country Doctor" (2007) had 6 grand prizes, his films got awarded more than 130 prizes. He has been selected as the 2 place at 25 top short animated films directors over the last 25 years in 2021.He is also active as a picture book author for "Viva Vegetables (Oyaoya Oyasai)", "Parade" and so on. Lyrics for the ending song "Beru ga Naru" of NHK longevity children's program. "Okasan to Issho"
He was awarded Kawakita Prize and Education Award for Fine Arts in Japan and received the Medal with Purple Ribbon in 2019.
He is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, a sub-chairman of the Japan Animation Association (JAA) and a member of the board of directors of the Japanese branch of the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA) and a director for the Hiroshima Festival Media Arts Division from 2021.President of Yamamura Animation, a visiting professor of Tokyo Zokei University since 2004 and China Academy of Art since 2021 and a professor of Tokyo University of the Arts since 2008.
