"Kyogen" has been handed down for over 650 years, and has fascinated people. The foremost figure in the art is the Living National Treasure Kyogen performer Nomura Mansaku, who continues to perform on stage even now, after more than 90 years in the business. The film follows a special day's performance, and looks at the exquisite Kyogen piece "Kawakami" that Mansaku has honed, as well as the trajectory of his life. The film is directed by Inudo Isshin, who also directed "Josee, the Tiger and the Fish" and "The Floating Castle." Animation is by Yamamura Koji, who also directed "Atamayama," narration is by Odagiri Joe, and supervision is by Nomura Mansaku and Nomura Mansai. A supreme documentary film woven with rich visual expression has been born.
